Title Teaching for Understanding with Technology
|
Instructor(s) |
Use and integration of productivity and web-based tools to improve teaching and learning. This excellent introductory class was where I was introduced to and used several Web 2.0 concepts and technologies, including an initial introduction to TPACK. Created a Personal Learning Network (PLN) and discussed the importance of Digital Citizenship. Initial class that applied towards my Graduate Certificate for Educational Technology.
Adapting Innovative
Technologies in Education |
Applied instructional principles and methods to K-12 educational issues. Developed interactive and innovative technological applications, including a collaborative group WebQuest and a Stand-alone, Instructional Resource [StAIR] project on how users can identify and select the best web browser for their needs. This course drew heavily on the concept of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), which strives to provide an equal opportunity for learning to ALL students. Second class that applied towards my Graduate Certificate for Educational Technology.
Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
|
Identification, implementation, and evaluation of technology-based solutions to educational issues in K-12 settings. This was the first class to deeply explore research methods and the use of surveys to identify student learning preferences. Created a personal Professional Lesson Plan; a collaborative group project using StoryKit; and a final project on the use of vodcasts. Final class that resulted in my Graduate Certificate for Educational Technology.
Approaches to Educational Research
|
Explored alternative methods of educational research (online and library resources). Then identified and researched a specific issue in education that tied in to my MSU work responsibilities: developed a research proposal that examined the use of narrative screencasts as a alternative form of instruction. I spent a lot of hours at the MSU libraries...and enjoyed every minute of it. This was an intense but very interesting class!
Learning in School and Other Settings
|
Examined learning as socially-constructed knowledge from school, home, community, and work settings. Specifically studied what is learned in these various settings, and how it is learned. Technology centered around the use of audio and video presentations. I created a digital story on the Transition of Learning at MSU, and also recorded an interview of two high school students to measure their perceptions and response to a science topic regarding the Moon's phases.
Learning Technology by Design
|
Investigated the components of design and their effects and outcomes on learners. Design factors included human/computer interaction, art and aesthetics and collaboration related to websites. McCloud's "Understanding Comics" provided the designing background for the course. My final project was a website devoted to Software Testing that can be utilized as a real workplace reference at MSU. Interesting and applicable course centering around how design features can play a prominent role in learning.
Teaching Students Online
|
Sandra Sawaya
Anne Heintz |
Strategies for constructing and implementing online curricula for Higher Ed students. This was one of my favorite classes because it dealt with the actual planning, prep and execution around creating an online course. I selected a Course Management System ("CourseSites") and built the outline for a sample course in American Political Science. I hope to one day complete this online course and use in a real learning environment.
Creativity in Teaching and Learning
|
Value and relevance of creativity in education. Examined how to recognize and support creativity in multiple educational contexts (observe, perceive, re-pattern, abstract, empathize, model, design and synthesize). I interviewed Dr. Timothy Brannan with a series of questions on creativity and their effects with current technology and how they lead to new innovations. Also rewrote the lyrics to the Beatles song "Yesterday" to this song that focuses on creativity factors that were learned in the course.
Technology and Leadership
|
Fascinating class that reviewed professional development strategies of technology leaders. Ethical and social implications of technology integration and methods of approach. I enjoyed learning and understanding the Seven Transformations of Leadership. This course culminated with a project and final reflection on a leadership plan to sustain software testing at MSU.
Proseminar in Educational Technology
|
Perspectives on educational technology, current theories, research findings, and methods of design and evaluation. Weekly assignments and collaboration with other students on the creation and long term use of a personal website. The final project is this Professional Portfolio that you are currently reviewing. Fun and rewarding way to finish my MSU master's degree!
